Bike sharing outside Luxembourg City
Which communes have shared e-bikes, what they cost, and where you pick up the card. The south has free e-bikes, and in some communes you collect the card at the town hall.
The short version
- Luxembourg City and its neighbours: vel’OH!, paid but cheap, and you sign up online. No trip to the town hall. Find stations
- The south: Vël’Ok Régional, free electric bikes in nine communes. You need a personal Vël’Ok card, and you pick it up in person at the Vël’Ok office in Esch or at one of the town halls. Find stations
- The Moselle, Diekirch and the Mullerthal: RentaBike. These are staffed rental points with opening hours, for a day out rather than for getting to work.
- Everywhere else: Mersch, Ettelbruck, Diekirch, Echternach, Remich and Mondorf don’t appear to have self-service bikes (some have a RentaBike desk). If you live there, ask at your commune.
Vël’Ok Régional (the south)
Vël’Ok is run by the CIGL Esch, a local non-profit that also gives people a way back into work. It started in Esch in 2004 and now covers nine communes: Esch-sur-Alzette, Bettembourg, Differdange, Dudelange, Kayl/Tétange, Mondercange, Rumelange, Sanem and Schifflange. The bikes are electric and there are stations in all nine.
It’s free. Signing up costs nothing and so do the rides. The catch is the rules: one ride can last 2 hours at most, the card is personal, and you can’t take the bike home. Going over the 2 hours costs €35 or a two-week ban, and a lost card is €5 to replace.
Who can use it: adults, and children from 14 if a parent signs them up.
Getting the card. This is the bit where you do have to go somewhere in person. You can either:
- go to a sign-up desk with your ID card or passport and register there, or
- pick up a blank Vël’Ok card at one of those desks, then fill in the online form.
The sign-up desks, as listed on velok.lu:
| Where | Address |
|---|---|
| Vël’Ok main office, Esch | rue Louis Pasteur, L-4276 Esch-sur-Alzette (Mon to Fri 9:00 to 18:00, Sat 10:00 to 14:00) |
| Esch town hall | Place de l’Hôtel de Ville, Esch-sur-Alzette |
| Bettembourg | Château de Bettembourg, 13 rue du Château (the Biergerzenter: Mon to Fri 8:00 to 11:30 and 14:00 to 16:30) |
| Differdange | 40 avenue Charlotte (the Biergeramt) |
| Dudelange | Place de l’Hôtel de Ville |
| Rumelange | 2 place Grande-Duchesse Charlotte |
| Kayl | 4 rue de l’Hôtel de Ville |
| Sanem | 60 rue de la Poste, Belvaux |
| Mondercange | 18 rue Arthur Thinnes (card only, then you register online) |
| Schifflange | Urbanisme department, 14 avenue de la Libération |
Bettembourg’s page adds two things the Vël’Ok site doesn’t mention: bring an mKaart (you can get one on the spot), and you’ll sign a €150 direct-debit authorisation as a guarantee in case a bike isn’t returned. Take your bank details with you to be safe.
Using it: hold your card to the dock, it beeps and lets the bike go. To return it, push it into any free dock until the light stays green and it beeps. Help line: 8006 2456, info@velok.lu.
vel’OH! (Luxembourg City and around)
vel’OH! is run by JCDecaux for the City of Luxembourg. Besides the city it has stations in Bertrange, Strassen, Hesperange, Niederanven, Leudelange, Mamer (including Capellen) and Walferdange. All the bikes are electric and it runs day and night.
- Prices: €18 a year, €2 for a day or €5 for three days. The first half hour of every ride is free, then it’s €1 an hour, with a maximum of €5 per 24 hours.
- Signing up: in the vel’OH! app or on myveloh.lu. You choose a plan and accept a deposit. There’s nothing to collect from the commune.
- Unlocking: with the app, or by holding a contactless card to the handlebar.
- Help: 27 88 87 46 (Mon to Fri 8:00 to 19:00, Sat 9:00 to 19:00, Sun and holidays 9:00 to 17:00), contactveloh@jcdecaux.com.

RentaBike (Moselle, Nordstad, Mullerthal)
RentaBike isn’t a self-service system. You go to a desk during opening hours, rent a bike for the day and bring it back, often to a different station. It’s good for a weekend ride along the river, less so for a daily commute.
RentaBike miselerland (the Moselle). Stations for 2026 are at Wasserbillig (Camping Schützwiese, and the tourist office across the bridge in Langsur-Wasserbilligerbrück), Grevenmacher, Remich, Remerschen, Schengen, Mondorf-les-Bains and Roodt-sur-Syre. Ehnen is closed this season. Some stations only work by booking: call 26 74 63 888 or email info@rentabike-miselerland.lu. Most are open from April to October.
2026 day prices: trekking bike €15, mountain bike €19, e-bike €25, electric mountain bike €31, children’s bike €11. Helmets, locks and baskets are free; a child seat or trailer is €7. With the Luxembourg Pass some bikes are free and others 30% off.
RentaBike Dikrich is run by CIGR Nordstad, another back-to-work non-profit, at 27 rue Jean l’Aveugle in Diekirch. It’s open every day from 1 April to 30 September, 10:00 to 17:00, and you need to book in winter. It delivers if you rent four bikes or more. Ettelbruck’s own tourism page sends you here or to the bike rental at Camping Ettelbruck.
RentaBike Mëllerdall has points in the Mullerthal, for example in Mullerthal village and at the Beaufort youth hostel. Visit Luxembourg’s bike rental map shows them all.
If your commune isn’t here
The Ministry of Mobility says it plainly: more and more communes offer shared bikes or day rentals, and they usually work with a deposit and a subscriber card, which you get from whoever runs the scheme. So the quickest check is your commune’s own website, under “mobilité”, or a question at the reception desk. The ministry’s page also links to a Geoportail map of the stations.
While you’re there, ask about local grants. Bettembourg, for example, has a “prime mobilité douce”. Ask what it covers.
