Me and My Luxembourg

Waldorf school, age 3 to the IB

Fräi-ëffentlich Waldorfschoul Lëtzebuerg

What it offers

A private Waldorf (Steiner) school in Luxembourg City, open since 1984, for children from age 3 through preschool, primary and secondary school, with the option of the two-year International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

Practical details

  • Approach: Waldorf (Steiner) education. The timetable is split into three equal parts: languages and social sciences, maths and natural sciences, and arts, crafts and movement. In primary, one class teacher stays with the class for the first six years. There are no standard textbooks: pupils work from material their teachers give them.
  • Stages: preschool and kindergarten from age 3; primary, grades 1 to 6; secondary, grades 7 to 11. Grade 11 ends either with a final dossier or with a pre-IB year, followed by the two-year IB Diploma. The school has offered the IB since 2004.
  • Teaching languages:
    • Preschool: Luxembourgish.
    • Primary: mainly German. French and English are taught as foreign languages from year 1.
    • Secondary: French is used more and more, German less. English stays a foreign language.
    • IB: mainly French. Visual Arts and Theatre are taught in English.
  • Admissions: the school looks at places, age and each child’s development, and decides after the teachers have met the child. Apply with the school’s form (in German or French). Primary and secondary have a waiting list, but the school still invites applications. Entry to the IB needs an entry exam (maths, English, French and German) and an application portfolio.
  • Fees: the school’s fees page (valid from 1 June 2026) gives a monthly minimum of €500.37 for one child up to grade 6, and €550.43 from grade 7, with a lower rate per child for brothers and sisters. Families also pay into a class account, €200 to €450 per term per child, for food, materials and trips.
  • School day: times depend on the grade. Preschool runs until 12:30. After-school care (Maison Relais) runs from 12:30 to 17:30.
